The Malaysian Biotechnology Information Centre (MABIC) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to building public understanding of biotechnology. In the past one decade, with its various outreach programmes and a broad spectrum of target audience, MABIC has positioned itself as the sole biotechnology communicator in Malaysia. MABIC organizes a variety of activities targeted at specific stakeholders in and around Malaysia to promote mutual understanding, engage the masses and inspire the next generation to embrace the potential of biotechnology. Its strong linkages and collaboration with universities and government agencies serves as MABIC’s key strength in successfully creating public understanding of biotechnology.

It is recent flagship project, the Petri Dish is Malaysia’s first science newspaper to further promote science & technology among stakeholders from all walks of life.

KLANG-BORN SCIENTIST NOMINATED AS 100 MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE IN BIOTECHNOLOGY

Dr Mahaletchumy Arujanan 46, joins the likes of famous people including Bill and Melinda Gates, as well as actor Michael J. Fox, mentioned in a special report published by renowned scientific magazine Scientific American. The list was launched at the recently concluded Bio International Convention in Philadelphia. While Fox was cited for his vast contribution for research on Parkinson’s disease, Dr Mahaletchumy, the Executive Director of the Malaysian Biotechnology Information Centre (MABIC) put her efforts to highlight the benefits of biotechnology on a global platform. Dr Mahaletchumy is also the Editor In Chief of The Petri Dish, a regional science newspaper, which continues to be influential in creating positive thoughts and opinions on the life sciences. She is a pioneer in science communication in Malaysia and is known for her non-traditional approach in communicating biotechnology.
