Message from the Director

Dear Valued Subscribers

A whole new year is ahead of us and we are starting this year with high enthusiasm and spirit.

February 6th is an important date for MABIC as it is the day our new direction and logo will be launched. This event will mark the beginning of a new era in MABIC’s history. It is envisaged that this event will provide MABIC with further impetus to excel, enhance its visibility, and forge stronger and new collaborations. During this event as well, for the first time ISAAA’s Global Status of Biotech Crops will be launched in Malaysia. This publication is considered to be the most authoritative source of information regarding the commercial use of biotech crops globally, and is the most-cited references on the subject by the world media and global scientific community. The details of this event is on our website.

Our other major events that are confirmed are listed on the event calendar. One of it is Journalists Exchange Programme which will be held in Karachi, Pakistan. Journalists are welcome to apply to join this programme. Click here for the nomination form. Only two journalists will be fully funded, so hurry up and apply now!

Your contributions to make this newsletter more informative and educational are most welcome. You may send in articles about your research, activities, or organization. This will expose the readers on the current status of biotechnology in the country.

Looking forward to meeting up in upcoming events this years.

All the best to everyone!

Sincerely

Mahaletchumy Arujanan
Program Director

Announcement

Launch of MABIC and It’s New Direction &
The Launch of Global Status of Commercialized Biotech/GM Crops: 2006

6th February 2007
MARDI, Serdang

A launch is organized to unveil MABIC’s new direction, logo, vision and mission. Although MABIC has been in existence for the past six years and has been actively involved in creating awareness on biotechnology, this event will be a platform where new collaborations and partnerships can be forged. This will be an important milestone for MABIC as it will provide an impetus to strive harder to promote biotechnology. The launch is expected to be attended by all major biotech stakeholders.

In conjunction with this event, the Global Status of Commercialized Biotech/GM Crops: 2006 will be launched for the first time in Malaysia. The event will feature a 45-min presentation by Dr Clive James, the author of this publication on “A Global Overview of Biotech crops; their Adoption, Impact and Future Prospects”.
