Message from the Director

Dear Valued Members

Greetings from MABIC! 2010 marks the 10th year of MABIC’s establishment in Malaysia and its efforts in disseminating factual and accurate information on biotechnology to all stakeholders. Over the years, MABIC has evolved as the “gateway to public understanding of biotechnology, true to its vision. From a humble beginning in the year 2000 in Kuching, today MABIC enjoys recognition from various ministries, government agencies, public and private universities, and the industry. We would like to thank all those who had confidence in us and supported our programmes. All our collaborators over the years deserve a BIG thank you from us. Not forgetting our host – Monash University Malaysia, who has hosted us after our move from Kuching till today.

In spite our past success, there is no time to rest on our laurels. Malaysia needs to move fast to catch up with the other key players in the biotechnology arena and MABIC will continue to play a key role in propelling this sector.

This year, MABIC will be part of the Biosafety Awareness Programme under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP-GEF). For this, MABIC will work together with the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) in producing educational material on biosafety and modern biotechnology for the public.

As usual all our events will be listed under our event calendar once they are finalised. Keep yourselves updated by browsing our website. IUFRO Kuala Lumpur 2010 Sustainable Utilisation and Conservation of Forests in the Genomics Era

7th - 12th March 2010
Legend Hotel, Kuala Lumpur

IUFRO Kuala Lumpur 2010 is the joint conference of IUFRO Working Parties 2.04.01 (Population, Ecological and Conservation Genetics) and 2.04.10 (Genomics) which will be held on March 7-12, 2010 at Legend Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) are the hosts for the conference.

The conference includes invited and contributed presentations and posters, discussion sessions, workshops, satellite and business meetings and an in-conference tour.
