The April poll taken by MABIC on the opinions of readers on bioremediation has shown mixed reactions regarding the level of familiarity among readers. 33% of the 79 people who replied has fewer to no exposure to the topic, while 18% were well-versed in the subject matter. Still, the bulk of the readers knew only very rough details of the subject in question. In fact, only 57 people out of 73 heard of the word bioremediation, of which 34 only knew the main gist of the word.

This is probably due to the lack of easily-accessible information regarding the subject as there is general consensus among the readers. 46% think there is a need to scale up the distribution of such information and a further 42% who believes that information distribution is non-existant.

In the poll, 19 people understood the urgent need of the employment of bioremediation in Malaysia while another 37% notes the presence of a need but does not think that it is urgent. 22% disagreed with the statement and 15% had no opinion.

Out of 81 people polled, 53 acknowledges the potential economical feasibility of bioremediation as a method of treating waste, while 11 overwhelmingly supports it. 11 people on the other hand, opposes to this, thinking it as a non-cost effective method.

This in turn affects the carrying out of composting of kitchen waste, in which 60% stating they would carry out such bioremedial procedures at home, while 31% said they would not. Similarly, 83% of the people polled agreed they would use compost to enrich their soil, with 53% fully committing to the idea. This is contrasted by the 11% who said they would not.
