month, MABIC gauged the level of understanding of the controversial GM
crop issue among readers. Out of 50 polled, 90% of readers knew that GM
foods have to undergo risk assessment prior to being approved for consumption.
10% did not. However, out of 51 polled, only 28 readers felt it safe to
consume GM crops, while a further 13 gave a reserved reply, and 7 did
not believe that GM crops were safe. Despite so, only 17 voted that they
would choose to consume GM crops, while 33 preferred non-GM crops. When
queried on whether Malaysia should go big in GM crop production, 41 readers
believed that Malaysia should, while a further 9 maintained reserved,
7 polled believed that Malaysia should not delve in GM crops. |
