The recent survey (2007) by
the World Intellectual Property Organisation
(WIPO) measured the economic impact of IP systems
in six Asian countries; China, India, Japan,
Malaysia, the Republic of Korea and Vietnam.
The report examines the impact of the IP system
on areas such as R&D, foreign direct investments
(FDI) and technology transfer. It finds “a
positive correlation between the strengthening
of the IP system and subsequent economic growth”.
