Message from the Director

Dear valued subscribers

It is the time of the month again where we meet in BiCalert. In this month’s issue, we are featuring a marine research centre located in Universiti Sabah Malaysia. We hope this will be both informational and educational.

As usual we have also highlighted some local and international news related to biotechnology. And this month’s poll is on “Malaysian perception on biotechnology”. Click here to vote!

For those who have not signed-in and given us your full profile, please click here to register. This will help us to cater to your needs and reach out to more people.

Announcement

Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) together with Malaysian Biotechnology Information Centre (MABIC) is organising a workshop on:

The Sustainable Utilisation of Biodiversity and the Related Issues on Biosafety in an Islamic Perspective.

Malaysia is one the world’s twelve hotspots of biodiversity as it is richly endowed with diverse flora and fauna that can potentially be developed into various natural products. As an Islamic country, it is important to know the manner in which we nurture and handle the richness of our biodiversity in the most appropriate way.

This workshop will focus on and address the various issues related to the sustainable use of biodiversity through biotechnology and its religious implications. This event will also be a platform for various stakeholders involved among the Islamic community to have better understanding on issues related to biodiversity, biotechnology & biosafety.

Date: 28 July 2005

Time: 8.30 am – 4.45pm

Venue: EiMAS, Bangi

Participants: By invitation only.
