The recent poll on cloning conducted by MABIC recently has been a divisive topic among readers. On whether it should be banned, 49% out of the 87 people who answered thought that a partial ban should be introduced while 21% called for an all-out ban. This is contrasted with the 30% of readers believed that cloning should not be banned.

This may be due to the concerns of the readers, who raised several questions, including 34% believing that cloning is morally wrong, 33% of readers believing that it contradicts their religious beliefs and 14% believing that the procedure is not safe.

Such views are futher expressed as readers were questioned on the relevance of cloning as a useful tool in the medical field. 41 readers out the 73 polled believed that it was a useful tool in medicine while 18 believed that it has yet to show its usefulness and a further 8 readers decided that it has no medical worth at all.

When questioned whether they would opt for cloning loved ones if it is legally and physically possible, readers overwhelmingly decided that they wouldn’t while 26% supported the cause and 8% had no idea.

However, it is also evident that there is a need for greater education among readers on cloning as 43 out of the 83 who were polled commented that they do not have a good understanding of the subject, while 24 readers had a good grasp on the concept of cloning and a further 16 readers who were very familiar with the concept.
