Dear Valued
Subscribers
This week
started off very well with the “Conference
on Modern Biotechnology”, jointly organized
by MABIC and BiotechCorp. The response from stakeholders
was overwhelming and the hall was filled with captive
audience. Prominent speakers from the United Kingdom,
Netherlands, USA, and Singapore joined our local speakers
to give an insight into the potential of modern biotechnology
and the need for a balanced regulatory framework to
facilitate the growth of this sector. The conference
was organized with an objective to provide the stakeholders
with accurate and science-based information on biotechnology
and biosafety.
I would
like to take this opportunity to share the recent
request put forward by the Raja Muda of Perak Raja
Dr. Nazrin Shah. Raja Nazrin urged easy access and
free flow of information to the public as informed
people make better decisions while those who are badly
informed would rely on half-truths and lies and non-credible
sources of information or they might remain ignorant.
This has been the guiding principle of MABIC. We often
see certain groups who do not have strong understanding
of biotechnology slamming and totally dismissing the
potential of this powerful technology. MABIC believes
in weighing the potential and the risks and will continue
to educate the public by providing credible information
based on science.
Our next
event is just a week from now – Workshop
for Journalists - Tissue Culture: A Day as a Scientist.
Participants will be able to experience the working
life of a scientist and learn about the tissue culture
technology.
Wishing
all a joyful 50th Merdeka Celebration.
Have fruitful
weeks ahead and see you again in the next issue.
