Message from the Director

Dear Valued Subscribers

October started off with good news for the biotechnology sector as great emphasis has been placed on this field under the Budget 2006. The Prime Minister announced the setting up of the Malaysian Life Science Capital Fund which would pool investment from various institutions to give biotechnology a head start. Government has allocated an initial fund of RM100 million for this. The setting up of a bio-product validation centre is also spelled out under this budget which would cost RM30 million. Another boost given to biotechnology is the allocation of RM2.8 billion for the agricultural sector and the establishment of a national agricultural and food corporation.

With all these coherent efforts, we at MABIC hope that biotechnology will be an important driver of the nation’s economy. MABIC aims to support the government by playing an important role in educating and creating awareness among the various stakeholders.

We hope, as subscribers, all of you stand to benefit from our programmes and publications.

Announcement

Part Time Data Collector

At MABIC, we would like to reach out to as many people as possible to ensure there is wide coverage for information on biotechnology. We are currently compiling a comprehensive database of key institutions, organizations, and individuals involved in biotechnology throughout the country. To do so, we are actively looking for a part time Data Collector who will be able to visit various institutions, universities, government agencies, and research institutes, which are directly or indirectly involved in biotechnology and collate the particulars of the experts in this area.

Ideally the candidate should have excellent communication skills and a fair understanding of biotechnology.
