A recent poll conducted
by MABIC gauged the reader’s comprehension and opinions on designer
babies. Out of 80 polled, it was observed that 26 readers have never heard
of the term designer babies, compared to the majority of 53 readers.
It was seen
that readers opted for a relatively liberal stance as 56 out of the 78
that voted believed that such research could be encouraged. However, of
this, 41 readers advised caution and maintained the need for its regulation.
This is contrasted by the 22 readers who staunchly opposed such research.
Similarly,
when the question of whether the reader would support the creation of
designer babies in order to save a life, 68% of 85 readers overwhelmingly
voiced a positive tone to the notion with 40% giving their unequivocal
support. However, it should also be noted that 32% of the readers were
against the creation of designer babies for these purposes.
Lastly, the
majority of readers (44%) maintained a possibility of their selection
of a designer baby should the need arise. In contrast, 33% were against
this, and 22% supported the notion unilaterally. |
