Message from the Director

Dear Valued Subscribers

I hope this issue of BiCalert greets you upon your return after the festive break. It was a refreshing break and now it is work as usual.

MABIC as usual is in full motion juggling between various activities. As a follow up to the ‘Conference on Modern Biotechnology’ which was held in August, MABIC is again joining hands with BiotechCorp to organize a workshop on ‘Regional Experiences in Biosafety Frameworks’. This will be held on the 5th Nov 2007 targeted at policy makers, government officials, scientists, and regulators. Experts from five countries will share their experiences, namely, India, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore. These countries have been chosen carefully based on their positive and balanced regulatory framework which reflects their aspiration to be on par with developing nations in terms of research and commercialization of GM crops.

We are also proud to announce our association with BioMalaysia 2007. MABIC is one of the supporting partners of this event and we hope to contribute positively towards the success of this annual event. Information on BioMalaysia 2007 is available on our website and we will continue to update you on further developments.

Do expect seminars on agribiotechnology and food safety sometime in December. We are currently working on this and details will soon be available once they are finalized. We are hoping to conduct these seminars in different states outside Selangor and Kuala Lumpur to reach out to more stakeholders.

Meet you again with more information in the next issue. We also would like to take this opportunity to wish all Hindu members “A VERY HAPPY AND PROPEROUS DEEPAVALI”.

Sincerely

Mahaletchumy Arujanan
Executive Director
