Message from
the Director
Dear Valued
Members
What a
hectic month. We are just done with two major conferences,
TWAS
Regional Young Scientists Conference and TWAS-TWOWS-PSN-SCOPUS
Young Women Regional Young Women Scientists Symposium
2009. MABIC played a big role in organizing
both these conferences with the aim to promote South-South
cooperation, nurturing young scientists and enabling
young Malaysian scientists to network with others
in the developing world. Scopus-Elsevier presented
awards to top young women scientists in four categories:
Life Sciences, Agriculture Science, Engineering &
Technology, and Medicine during the Regional Young
Women Scientists Symposium.
BioMalaysia
will take off next week and hope to catch up then
with all the biotech players and colleagues. It is
also MABIC's wish that BioMalaysia 2009 will drive
more investors and collaborators to Malaysia. Just
before BioMalaysia, MABIC will be in Kelantan to organize
a teachers' workshop in collaboration with the Curriculum
Development Division, Ministry of Education and Universiti
Kelantan Malaysia. And we will be at AIMST on the
23rd for another seminar with UPEN, Kedah and AIMST.
That is
how busy MABIC is with the only hope that Malaysia
will see the fruits of biotechnology soon in terms
of home-grown technology, knowledge workers, and GDP
growth. We hope what MABIC does make a difference
to the biotech industry in Malaysia.
Till we
meet again, best wishes from MABIC.
Yours sincerely
Mahaletchumy Arujanan
