Khazanah National Bhd, the national investment arm has its eyes set on aquaculture as a major model project for small medium businesses to follow, by investing heavily in shrimp farming. The initiative will see the unit, Blue Archipelago Bhd turn around an underperforming shrimp farm to be the nation¡¯s largest shrimp producer by the end of the year. The company is current placed as number three in the country and further expansion, including sites in the east coast, Sarawak and Johor is on the way. |

Satellites would be used to boost the country¡¯s agriculture and livestock sectors, according to director-general of MARDI, Datuk Dr. Abd Shukor Abd Rahman. In a collaboration with the business branch of Western Australia¡¯s Department of Land Authority, Landgate International, remote sensing applications would be used on vegetation, index identification and pasture monitoring. Such data would be valuable for farmers for better management, and has been started by the Muda Agriculture Development Authority in Jerai. |

A rare find at Cameron Highlands has been cause for much excitement of late, as a specimen of Aphyllorchis Montana had been found in full bloom. The leafless orchid species is butter yellow with brown specks and commonly grows up to 1.2m. The find has orchid enthusiasts excited as the mountain species only flower once every two, three years. Talks are in place to get authorities protecting the site from further development in the future.

Founded in 1982, this expansion would see BP Healthcare doubling its numbers to 50 diagnostic centers by 2010 and further upgrades to existing ones. The palm oil sectors financial woes are far from over as Sarawak planters are facing tough sales and operational conditionsfollowing the drastic drop in crude palm oil prices. Being a late entrant in the palm oil industry, the state only makes up 28% of the combined matured area of the nation¡¯s palm oil. Analysts believe that with CPO prices hovering arounf RM1,450 to RM1,500, planters in the state would find themselves in dire straits. Ironically, palm oil stocks have hit a new peak in the country as slowing export growth outpaced production cuts.

Tea tree oil may be the solution for the fungal infection woes that has been plaguing Sultan Ismail Hospital in Johor. The hospital has been troubled by fungal infections for a year which seems to have been caused by the wet ground it has been built upon. The treatment will be administered by Sistem Awasan Taraf Hospital Sdn Bhd and would cost only a fraction of what would normally be a thorough disinfection of the building. |

| The among Malaysia¡¯s neurosurgeons are on the verge of causing them to be ¡°worked to death¡± to save lives, as the 62 neurosurgeons available are forced to take on double duty to address the shortage. According to statistics, the country is in need of 150 neurosurgeons to address the amount of cases, or at least 1 for every 200,000 people. The Health Ministry is offering abundant financial and professional support in a bid to attract such specialists into the country. This is a constant trend in Malaysia, causing hospitals to be dependent on foreign doctors to fill their positions. Efforts are underway by the Health Ministry to double doctor people ratio by 2013. |
