The Sabah Wildlife Department marked a milestone with its orang utan rehabilitation when it became the first in the world to use transmitter implants to monitor progress of the primates reintroduced into the wild. The transmitter, the size of a 50-sen coin, developed by Austrian university professors would help orang utan conservationists to keep track of rehabilitated primates when they are released. The transmitter was placed in the neck area where the skin was thick and which had fat deposits. The device can also be switched on or off by using a magnet without any surgery. |

strong demand cuts high stocks and rising crude oil prices encourage
more biofuel demand. James Fry, who heads LMC lnternational in London,
said palm oil prices may rise to RM3,200 by June based on Brent crude
hitting US$85 (US$1 = RM3.38) a barrel and Malaysian palm oil stocks

Hampered by poor offtake
and escalating cost of subsidy, the Government's highly promoted
85
mandate - the blending of 5% biodiesel with 95% diesel - now stands at
the crossroads. Seen initially as one of the
national strategic
measures for better palm oil stock management with full implementation
by January 2010, the B5 mandate is now being closely scrutinised by the
Government for a possible reduction to B3 mandate soon. This latest
decision however does not "blend" well with local palm oil biodiesel
producers which have long suffered in silence over the snail phase
progress of the B5 mandate.
