Dear valued members?
It is time again to welcome the new year and set new resolutions. But what is more important than setting new resolutions is reflecting back on our previous achievements, shortcomings and failures. Malaysia, as a nation has big ambition to become a global biotech player and this aspiration is shared by many of our local companies. Where are we in achieving this mission? What are the challenges? Have we identified where we have gone wrong? It is particularly important to realise our mistakes, as this will help us find a remedy to overcome the failures and get better in the future.
Some of the main challenges in the biotech industry is the lack of human capital; establishment of various regulatory regime such as biosafety, IP, plant variety, GLP, GCP, etc; the funding mechanism for the industry; level of commercialization at universities and research institutes; and lack of private-public collaborations. These areas need urgent attention from the relevant stakeholders.
MABIC will continue to support the development of biotechnology in Malaysia through its activities to see the nation¡¯s dream come true.
MABIC wishes everyone MERRY CHRISTMAS and A PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!
Yours sincerely
