Dr Mahaletchumy Arujanan PhD

Executive Director


Mahaletchumy joined MABIC in Jan 2003 as a Project Officer and later took over as  the Executive Director in May 2005. Equipped with a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and Biochemistry, a Masters in Biotechnology, and PhD in Science Communication, Maha transformed MABIC into a household name among local and international biotechnology community.

Her passion to bring biotechnology closer to the society and engaging them as a partner in the development of this industry has seen a number of innovative approaches in public understanding of biotechnology. Her close links with government agencies, universities and the industry is an asset to MABIC.

She sits on various panels and committees at both the national and international level, and is a regular speaker at biotechnology events.

Maha is a recipient of 2010 TWAS Regional Prize for Public Understanding of Science for East, Southeast Asia and Pacific Region.

Shamira Shamsuddin

Project Officer                                                                                                                                                 

 

Shamira joined MABIC in April 2011. Shamira enjoys the daily challenges of being a Project Officer and appreciates the opportunity to meet various stakeholders in biotechnology industry. Shamira  assists in stakeholder engagement activities involving scientists, policy makers, academia, industry partners, and the media.

She also writes for the The Petri Dish where in a typical week she could jump from issues like genetically modified foods, to food security, to climate change. She is enthusiastic to multiply effect of MABIC's effort in communicating biotechnology.

Shamira holds a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology.

Farah Nadzri

Project Officer                                                                                                                                                 

 

Farah joined MABIC in October 2012 as an intern. She is eager to explore new challenges and also has strong aptitude for science communication and interested in making science accessible to layman. She enjoys engaging with the public and meets various stakeholders in biotechnology industry.

She also writes for The Petri Dish and creates leisure for Coffee Break column. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology.
